Results and Values

What do the test results mean?

Normal values for aldolase are 3-8.2 U/dl (Units per deciliter).

Higher levels of aldolase may indicate:

  • damage to skeletal muscles
  • chronic hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver lasting more than 6 months
  • gangrene, or tissue death
  • muscular dystrophy, a disorder causing gradual deterioration of the body's' muscles
  • heart attack
  • polymyositis, an inflammatory disease of the skeletal muscle tissue
  • cancer of the liver, pancreas, or prostate
