What do the test results mean?
Normal values for aldolase are 3-8.2 U/dl (Units per deciliter).
Higher levels of aldolase may indicate:
damage to skeletal muscles
chronic hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver lasting more than 6 months
gangrene, or tissue death
muscular dystrophy, a disorder causing gradual deterioration of the body's' muscles
heart attack
polymyositis, an inflammatory disease of the skeletal muscle tissue
cancer of the liver, pancreas, or prostate
