What are the signs and symptoms of the injury?

Symptoms of a chemical burn vary, depending on the chemical and the part of the body that is exposed. Symptoms can include the following:

  • abdominal pain
  • blisters, rashes, and burns on the skin
  • cloudy, red, or watery eyes
  • dizziness
  • headaches
  • pain at the site of the injury
  • seizures
  • unconsciousness, which occurs with severe chemical exposures
  • visual impairments

  • coughing
  • shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • wheezing
