What are the signs and symptoms of the condition?

Most people with mitral valve prolapse have no symptoms at all. The condition is usually found during a regular physical examination. Those who do have symptoms may have the following:

  • anxiety
  • chest pain
  • fainting
  • fatigue
  • palpitations, or an unusual awareness of the heart beating in the chest
  • panic attacks
  • a sensation that one is about to pass out
  • shortness of breath
