What are the signs and symptoms of the injury?

Symptoms of a nose emergency will vary, depending on the type of problem.

Following are some of the signs and symptoms of nosebleeds:

  • bleeding from one or both nostrils
  • bleeding into the back of the throat
  • coughing up blood that has drained into the back of the throat
  • feeling of fullness in the ears
  • gagging
  • Some of the usual signs that a foreign body may be lodged in the nose are as follows:

  • difficulty breathing through the clogged nostril
  • pain or irritation with the sensation of something in the nostril
  • foul-smelling discharge if the object is left in the nostril
  • sneezing
  • tearing
  • A nose fracture usually involves the following:

  • black eyes on both sides
  • deformed appearance of the nose
  • difficulty breathing through the clogged nostril
  • a feeling of pain along the bridge of the nose and the area between the eyes
  • nasal pain and swelling
  • nosebleed
