Symptoms & Signs

What are the signs and symptoms of the injury?

Symptoms can vary depending upon whether the condition is mild or severe. Early symptoms include:

  • extreme sweating
  • increased thirst
  • nausea
  • muscle cramps
  • fatigue and weakness
  • light headedness and dizziness
  • As the problem grows worse, more severe symptoms can occur. These can including:

  • contracted pupils
  • headache
  • pale, cool, moist skin
  • mild confusion
  • vomiting
  • decreased or absent urination
  • In the most severe form, a true emergency known as a heat stroke occurs. The symptoms of a heat stroke may include:

  • dry, hot, red skin
  • fever greater than 100 degrees F
  • extreme confusion
  • fast, shallow breathing
  • weak, fast pulse
  • dilated or widened pupils
  • loss of consciousness
  • seizures
