Health Tip: High Heels May Hurt Your Back

(HealthDay News) -- High heels, a fashion statement for many women, can injure the feet, ankles, calves, knees, and back.

The higher the heel, the greater your risk of falling, spraining a muscle, and other types of injury, according to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons says those aren''t the only risks of high heels. They can also pinch your feet or toes, perhaps causing permanent injury.

The AAOS recommends wearing shoes with no or low heels. You should also be sure that shoes aren''t too tight or too loose.
