Health Tip: Symptoms of Leukemia

(HealthDay News) -- Leukemia is a cancer of the blood, caused by an abundance of abnormal white blood cells.

Here are some common warning signs of the disease, courtesy of the University of California, San Francisco Children''s Hospital:

  • Anemia, which may cause paleness, weakness, and a tendency to bleed or bruise easily.
  • Persistent infections with symptoms of runny nose, cough, and fever.
  • Pain in the joints and bones.
  • Pain in the abdomen.
  • Swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck, groin, chest, or under the arms.
  • Difficulty breathing, or persistent wheezing or coughing.
