(HealthDay News) -- Fruits and vegetables often are sprayed with pesticides to ward off bugs.
Here are suggestions on how to avoid these chemicals, courtesy of
Brigham and Women''s Hospital:
- Choose organic fruits and vegetables, which, by definition, are less likely to contain pesticides.
- Buy locally grown produce when possible. Be sure to ask about pesticide use by local farmers.
- Always wash produce with cold water before cooking or eating.
- Peel skins and trim leaves of produce when appropriate.
