Health Tip: Prevent Diaper Rash

(HealthDay News) -- Diaper rash appears red, tender and scaly, and is often caused by diapers left on too long that are soiled or too tight.

To prevent diaper rash, the Nemours Foundation recommends that you:

  • Check your baby''s diaper frequently, and change it as soon as it is wet or soiled.
  • Between changes, soak your baby''s bottom in warm water from time to time.
  • Be sure your baby''s skin is completely dry before putting on a new diaper.
  • If possible, occasionally let your baby go without a diaper to let his bottom''s skin air out.
