Health Tip: Reading to Your Baby

(HealthDay News) -- Reading to your child will help her develop good reading, writing and comprehension skills, the University of Michigan Health System says.

Here are the school''s suggestions on reading to your baby:

  • Use sturdy board books -- not paper -- that your baby can hold herself and look at.
  • Talk about and describe the pictures in the books.
  • Sing the words instead of reading them to keep her interest.
  • Using books with flaps that hide illustrations, play peek-a-boo with your baby.
  • Read texture books that your baby can touch and feel.
