(HealthDay News) - A toothache can be caused by different factors, including an infection or nerve injury. Once a toothache develops, it''s important to see your dentist.

The University of Michigan Health System lists these potential reasons for a toothache:

  • An infection in the tooth or gum.
  • A cracked or fractured tooth.
  • A problem with or damage to a dental filling.
  • Grinding your teeth.
  • An injury to the tooth.
  • Receding gums.
  • A cavity.
  • A loose dental crown.
