Health Tip: After Liposuction

(HealthDay News) -- Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure used to remove fat deposits from certain parts of the body.

Before deciding to have this elective procedure, it''s important to note that liposuction doesn''t always meet a patient''s expectations, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration says. Here are possible shortcomings:

  • You will have scars from the procedure. Typically, they are small and fade with time, but some people have larger, more noticeable scarring.
  • Just after the procedure, the area may appear bumpy or wavy.
  • Your physical changes may not be as significant or dramatic as you expected. Also they may not be permanent, as fat deposits could return.
  • Liposuction is not a replacement for a healthy diet and regular exercise.
