Health Tip: Exercise to Beat Arthritis Pain

(HealthDay News) -- Arthritis is a rheumatic disease that affects the body''s joints and connective tissues. Exercise is a relatively easy way to help control its symptoms.

The University of Virginia Health System lists the benefits of exercise for people with rheumatic disease:

  • Keeps joints from feeling and acting stiff.
  • Strengthens muscles surrounding the joints.
  • Improves joint flexibility and alignment.
  • Reduces joint pain and swelling.
  • Strengthens bone and cartilage tissue.
  • Makes you more physically fit overall.
