(HealthDayNews) -- Chlamydia is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted disease in America, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While complications among men are rare, the infection can damage a woman's reproductive organs and cause infertility. Symptoms of chlamydia usually are mild or absent, but may include abnormal discharges or a burning sensation when urinating. Most cases are cured easily with antibiotics. Any sexually active person can be infected. To help prevent chlamydia, annual screening is recommended for all sexually active women aged 25 and younger. An annual screening test also is recommended for older women who have a new partner or multiple partners.
