Health Tip: Your Ruddy Complexion

(HealthDayNews) -- Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that affects about 14 million Americans, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. It causes redness and swelling -- primarily on the face -- though it can also affect the scalp, neck, ears, chest and back.

Since rosacea causes facial swelling and redness, it is easily confused with other skin conditions, such as acne and sunburn.

Dermatologists can't cure rosacea, but they can prescribe a variety of treatments that diminish its symptoms. According to a survey of 1,077 rosacea patients, 87 percent said their condition was under control with treatment. Modern remedies range from topical products and oral medications to laser skin therapy.
