Health Tip: Can Green Tea Prevent Cancer?

(HealthDay News) -- Recent studies have produced conflicting results on whether green tea can help prevent certain types of cancer, such as those of the prostate and breast, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration says.

Two studies found that green tea did not reduce the risk of breast cancer, while a more limited study found that it might.

Similarly, one study on prostate cancer found that green tea did not reduce the risk but a second, "weaker" study found that it did, the agency says.

In June 2005, the FDA issued a statement that there''s no scientific proof yet that green tea can reduce a person''s risk of cancer.
