Health Tip: If a Child Has a Seizure

(HealthDay News) -- Seizures are caused by abnormal electrical discharges in the brain, the Nemours Foundation says.

Although they are frightening, seizures are rarely life-threatening.

The foundation offers these suggestions if a child has a seizure:

  • If possible, gently place the child on the floor.
  • Loosen the clothing around the neck.
  • Do not try to prevent the child from shaking.
  • Roll the child onto his side, so if he vomits, he won''t choke.
  • Contact a physician.
