Health Tip: Symptoms of Barrett's Esophagus

(HealthDay News) -- Barrett''s esophagus is a condition in which damage to the cells that line the esophagus causes these cells to become abnormal.

This damage is often caused by chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or an inflamed esophagus.

Here are some of the symptoms of Barrett''s esophagus, courtesy of the Ohio State University Medical Center.

• Heartburn pain at night severe enough to cause you to wake.
• Vomiting, and/or blood in the vomit.
• Blood in the stools.
• Problems swallowing.

If you have these symptoms, which may mimic those from other conditions, tell your doctor.
